Andrew's demo, Primitive took fourth — the same position Diatom took last year.

People seem to like the demo even though it's not as tight as Diatom. It was fourth in the line-up and the first to receive cheers when it popped a simple but crowd-pleasing effect. And it was great to see it on the big screen, the music coursing through our bodies. I recorded the whole thing, heads in the way and all.

The production represents a leap in Andrew's skill; now that he has a wider range, it's more difficult to focus it and to conceptualize something that he can build by deadline. He also has to hone directorial skills.

Diatom was up for a Breakthrough Performance award, but it didn't win. Competition in the category was daunting. It's true what they say: It is an honor to be nominated. Andrew received a certificate for the nomination, which he has held close since Truck handed it to him.

Jet lag was a more formidable foe, and I felt worn down the entire time. I got chilled from standing outside for a long time on Friday and then didn't have the energy later, after we had returned to the hotel for a nap, to go back out, so I stayed in the room and wrote for several hours while Andrew worked on his demo at the party place. We talked to people we met last year and spent some time getting to know members of Brainstorm. All the while, my energy dragged. Sleep was erratic and insufficient — the compo night started late and ran very late, and we didn't get back to the hotel until 5:30 a.m. We slept for a few hours before forcing ourselves to wake up for breakfast and go to the closing festivities. So tired. But I'm glad we went.

In less than two weeks, Andrew will go to a U.S. demoparty, Block Party. The lid's barely on Breakpoint and he's already working on the demo he plans to release at the next stop.
