03.11.2009 | Black magic mini bundt

Today really is one of those days when there's little time to do this thing and very little to say. I could post just a picture, but I don't think that would be consistent with the goal of this exercise. However, the free writing to come could very well be a diminishment.

Oh. Well.

Andrew is asleep in the bed behind me, still wearing his glasses. The book he was reading rests on his chest, gliding on the waves of his breathing. It's only just ten and we're both beat.

Home around eight. We ate our take-out dinners and watched Rick Steves. The Peloponnesian coast. Kalamata. Then we got out the giant National Geographic Atlas and looked at Greece. So many islands! Every name is a thing apart from the place. We looked at the GDP of some European countries too. $7000 per capita, $13,000. One with just triple digits. Each state in the United States has a greater GDP than the countries we saw. We closed the book, shared the news on the computer over a black magic mini bundt cake. And then he decided to read, which was really a move to sleep.

Tomorrow, if I want to do everything I need to do, I need to wake up at six. That means I'm short for this night, too. Not quite the evening we imagined having together, but nice all the same.
