We had been out of the neighborhood the entire day and were just climbing back up the hill when we encountered the Santas. The stoplight turned red and the Ho-Ho–down began. Santas descended the edge of the sidewalk and bobbed into the street. One approached my window and knocked. I rolled down. He said, "Ho-Ho-Hooo! Merry Christmas!" and dropped three chocolates into my hand. And then the light was green. Cars ahead started to roll, and the cheer ebbed.
