2.21.2005 | We have to go to Vancouver to eat at Vij's
Another escape to Vancouver. We need to be away, or we need to be together. I like to cling to both and resist seeing beyond either. He likes to keep the goals simple and I fight him all the way on that one, every time. In that way, he's the only person I know who makes me appear more anxious by comparison. From some eccentric stillness, he gently steadies my orbit. Then we are closer, more valent. Then I know his economical vision was the more fruitful one. In the waning daylight we ventured out to midspan on the Lion's Gate Bridge. It's one of those places that is a meridian for everything that counts. After you habituate a little, you can let go of the rail and have this amazing sensation of being held aloft by all the elements that make that moment. Then you can turn back to the rail and let your head drop over. From the zenith of the span, the view of the water is clean and this gives the illusion of not being so high up. But then you look left or right and see the uncountable particles of the bordering beaches, the vertigo rises in the ears, and you reach your gaze again for the sensible distance of the sky. The rest of the time we made the hotel room our city, another new view afforded by Hotwire. Rooms that have been ours dot the city, and it's fun to think how many trips that pattern makes.
