4.26.2003 | Matcha Tiramisu Rode around Mercer Island today. We got a late start, so by the time we got to the loop only a few guys in sausage gear were still circling. One of them talked to Andrew and then passed us like we weren't pedaling at all. Afterward, we slipped into Ototo Sushi four minutes before it closed. We ordered once and ate thrice: miso, sushi, and one whopping futon of green tea tiramisu. It was a risky dessert to order. It's hard to imagine how to combine that famous italian dessert with Japan's consecrated beverage. Turns out it was spongey white cake cut into thin layers, which were separated by fluffly little duvets of green tea-flavored cream. Match'a, powdered sugar, and chocolate were drizzled over top. Andrew said I got to indulge my love of cake, tea, and chocolate all at once. You can't tell from this picture but this thing was the size of a football. That's an eight-ounce cup beside it! |
