A weather report. Several days of steady and fecundating heat mounted on the area, baring flesh and causing nectar to flow from trees into the air and onto our cars, until the air began to boil, tangling the trees and messing the streets to culminate today in atmospheric convulsions, cold with sweaty convergence. On Friday my company moved two blocks north on the same street. I'm glad for it. I need the change and the novelty to distract me for a while. The space is one open room and we will sit in oubliettes of fabric-covered particleboard. I was given a window seat from which I can count bricks or the people standing in line at Taco Del Mar below. If I stretch to the left, I can also watch Café Paloma and people walking on First. I am but a few paces from Marcus' Martini Heaven, where I have been known to go in late afternoons to edit in the dimness, a Manhattan attending. We packed throughout the morning and finished by early afternoon. I left for the gym then biked around Alki. The battery died in my little onboard computer so I don't know the distance or the speed, but two hours passed before I got home. I'd been going slowly because of the wind and to placate thighs tired from lifting. |
